| About Art on a Limb |
| On October 16, 2005, Upper Valley art lovers will have a rare opportunity to become the proud possessors of original works of art by 38 Vermont artists with international reputations. Art on a Limb: The Vermont Maple Leaf Auction will take place at the Windsor Library, 43 State Street, Windsor, Vermont, from 2 to 5 p.m. Tickets to the event are $25 and seating will be limited to 100. Your $25 donation may be applied to a bid on a leaf or it may be taken as a charitable tax donation. Directions for assuring your seat at the event are below. In the spring of 2005, the Friends of Windsor Library, sponsors of the event, asked 110 Vermont artists and illustrators to take part in the Art on a Limb celebration and fundraiser. Most of the artists are juried and are widely collected or published. Over a third of them responded favorablya remarkable level of participation from a very generous group of people. Over the summer, the artists produced an illustrated maple leaf, cut from a solid piece of 3/8" pine by Windsor woodworker Richard Poland (who donated the wood and his labor). The leaves are about 8" in diameter. They will be on tour around the Upper Valley in September and early October. Watch this page for the schedule. | About Windsor and the Windsor Library |
| Windsor, the Birthplace of Vermont, is located on the Connecticut River ten miles south of White River Junction. There, in 1777, Vermont declared itself an independent republic, a status the state enjoyed until it was welcomed into the Union as the 14th state in 1791. The Windsor Library was built in 1904, a gift of part-time resident Benjamin Blood, who was also the benefactor responsible for the West Windsor and Ascutney (Proctor) libraries. Besides its 101-year-old library, Windsor is the home of the Old Constitution House, where Vermonts independence was proclaimed; the American Precision Museum, which celebrates Windsors legacy as the home of the machine tool industry; and the Cornish Art Museum, which houses artworks by Maxfield Parrish and many of his contemporaries who congregated around Windsor and Cornish, New Hampshire, during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Windsor is a remarkable town, and if you havent visited, we hope you will take this occasion to come see us, take part in Art on a Limb, and enjoy a beautiful autumn walking tour. Youll be glad you did! |
