Mary Azarian

Ms. Azarian lives in Plainfield. Her woodcut alphabet prints are familiar to more than one generation of schoolchildren, and she has illustrated over 40 books. One of them, “Snowflake Bentley,” a book about Vermont's famous photographer of snow crystals, won the coveted Caldecott award in 1999.

In her untitled contribution, she has beatifully situated a Vermont village within the demanding form of our leaf, featuring a high autumn landscape that is both intimate and infinite.
