Heather Shanks
Ms. Shanks lives in Windsor. Her interests include etching, woodblock, and collograph printmaking techniques. Each plate and block she creates is, in her opinion, as visually interesting as the print that results from it. With this idea in mind, she cut a design in the leaf as though it were a block to be printed from. But instead of pulling prints from it, she has treated it as a work in its own right.
We will leave to others the task of interpreting the symbolism represented by the clover, the thorns, and the beehive with its circling bees in her contribution, Bee Leaf. We will content ourselves with admiring the meticulous carving and coloring of this stunning piece. The photograph does not do justice to the intricacy of this piece. |
